Varanasi : The Diesel Locomotives Works(DLW) has set another record by manufacturing 311 rail locomotives during year 2013-14. In another major achievement, DLW on April 1 has become the second biggest manufacturer of diesel locomotives in the world after United States.
The railway board had set a target of 300 locomotives during the last financial year and it exceeded the target by manufacturing 311 locomotives, v P Khare, the general manager of DLW said here today.
He claimed that the railways unit had been manufacturing locos in excess of the targets every year since last ten years.
According to Mr Khare, this year the DLW would start manufacturing 5500 horse power engines and after that the 6000 HP engines, the strongest so far,would be built here.
DLW is a premier Indian railways unit and the locos built here are exported to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam and Mangolia.
