Nanu Ki Jaanu

Nanu Ki Jaanu

Review Rowdy -

Plot =  Nanu (Abhay Deol) is a local goon, who operates with a gang comprising of Promila (Reshma Khan), Dabbu (Manu Rishi) and Nabhaey (Deepak Sharma), and forcefully captures flats of innocent residents and families in the city of Delhi. His life gets tobsy – turvy when he starts witnessing paranormal activities at his flat and feels the presence of a ghost. Has Nanu completely lost his mind or is there something more horrifying than this at his flat?

Opinion = The plot had novelty but the execution made it a half – cooked khichadi. I am not able to fathom that was it a horror – comedy, a thought – provoking movie on domestic – violence  or an educational movie teaching us how to drive safely. Yes, you read it right, there is no connection between all the three inferences, because, there is also no connection between the script and the screenplay. There are a lot of ‘cheeti and haathi’ type of clichéd jokes, which try to create humor, with efforts gone in vain. There are only a couple of scenes where you will laugh-out-loud and in some scenes, you will definitely get a feel of watching a horror movie. My rating is totally based on those scenes, rest is just crap!

Performances = The movie has a pool of extremely talented and well-established actors like Abhay Deol, Patralekhaa (Siddhi) (Citylights Fame), Brijendra Kala, Rajesh Sharma (Siddhi’s Father)   and Manoj Pahwa. All of them are completely wasted. It is sad that Abhay Deol is required to do such kind of movies for being in the game.

Direction & Other Technical Aspects = I would definitely blame Director Faraz Haider for ruining the plot with mediocre execution. The climax sequence is utter non – sense and testifies how low Bollywood can get. The VFX Team has done their job perfectly. Also, some of the Dialogues are witty and entertaining!

A Quiet Place

A Quiet Place

Review Rowdy -

Plot =  A family of 4, Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt), Lee Abbott (John Krasinski), Regan Abbott (Millicent Simmonds) & Marcus Abbott (Noah Jupe), gets secluded in a mansion when the entire world is killed by a breed of a horrific creature, who feeds on his prey, if he hears its sound. The only option for survival is to stay quiet. Will this family be able to survive the threat or will they get slaughtered by the ‘sound of silence’?

Opinion = It is an unconventional horror flick, which will scare the ‘hell’ out of you. Throughout its runtime, it is impossible to predict about how the movie is going to end. But, once you reach the climax, you feel that, if the movie was destined to end like this, then it could have reached to the same conclusion, long ago. Nonetheless, the movie does its job of ‘scaring you’. Majority of the time, the communication between the characters is through sign – language. So, the movie plays on your psyche with the screenplay and the background music. You will get goose – bumps while watching this movie, at many places. The plot had a novelty of its own, but, somehow, in the end, things became quite filmy. If you are a connoisseur of horror movies, it’s a treat for you!

Performances = Emily Blunt is a well established actress. She conveys a lot through her facial expressions. Emily is an adroit in playing characters having multiple shades. Here, she has been the protagonist, who is responsible towards her family. Her scenes with her children are the best ones in the movie. Actor John Krasinski had nothing productive to do. If the movie would have been based only on Emily and her children, then also it was fine. John is redundant in this movie. Both the child artists have given a very decent performance.

Direction & Other Technical Aspects = I believe John Krasinski got too tired of being the Director and the Actor at the same time. Because of which, he could not utilize his potential optimally in both the roles. The runtime is just 90 minutes, but in between, I felt that the Screenplay got repetitive, which made the movie a little heavy. The Cinematography, Background Score and the VFX get full marks from my side.
