Review = After ROBOT 2.O, this one was the next highly anticipated movie of 2018. And, like the former, even this trailer is not up to the mark.
The movie looks like a routine struggle of independence (of course from British Rulers), with a touch of “Pirates of the Caribbean”. I am not able to fathom on which book or time period, has the movie set its premise.
For the first time in the history of Indian Cinema, 2 mega stars, like Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan, will be seen against each other, on the celluloid.
Hence, the movie was in the spotlight since last 2 years, and if this is the final product, then I am skeptical about its success.
The project is backed by Yash Raj Films and as a part of the strategy; they have booked the entire 1 month slot with the multiplex owners. No other movie is allowed to release before a week and till after 3 weeks of TOH’s release.
Hence, I feel that, the movie will get more benefit of this embargo, than its content or hype.
After watching the trailer, I felt that, no hard work was put in developing the storyline or while executing the VFX. Especially, the VFX looks highly sub – standard and kiddish.
MAKERS, please note, while you are making a heavy use of the VFX, in any movie, it should not look like you have done that. The Effects must give the feeling of reality, otherwise, it’s of no use.
In the trailer, the way cannons are fired on a tower and the opening scene, where we are shown multiple boats sailing in the sea, everything looks utterly fake and other worldly.
Also, we have been seeing Aamir Khan in the same kind of roles (little funny and little chaalaak type) since ages. At one point, I felt that, Aamir is going to repeat the same disastrous acting, as he had done in MELA, almost 20 years back. I am highly disappointed seeing his character in the trailer.
Mr. Bachchan, on the other hand, resembles his avatar in MOHABBATEIN (The same PARAMPARA! ANUSHAASAN! PRATISHTHA! NIYAM! shit). He is playing his age, but his costume and dressing also resembles his avatar in EKLAVYA. Still, out of all the characters (there is one “sasta firangi” also in the movie) his character had an impact on me.
The entry of Fatima Sana Shaikh (“Zafira” in the movie) looked very similar to a fight sequence executed by Prabhas in BAHUBALI 2. I don’t know how she has performed in the movie.
The only saving grace or praise – worthy aspect of the trailer was the entry and facial expressions of actress Katrina Kaif.
Katrina ne sahi mein aag laga di trailer mein!
Overall, like many others, even I am highly disappointed with the trailer.
Also, since the project is helmed by Director Vijay Krishna Acharya, who had previously given us 2 most pathetic movies of Indian Cinema; DHOOM 3 and TASHAN, I have no expectations from the movie.
I am only requesting GOD for providing me the required strength, on 8th November, for bearing this probable torture!
Review Rowdy -Tweet Plot = The movie showcases the rise and fall of one of the most notable and controversial urdu – writer SAADAT HASAN MANTO, during the Indian Independence Era. Manto’s conviction in a legal battle against one of his most controversial short stories “Thanda […]

Plot = Sonia (Mrunal Thakur) is a teenager, whose sister Jiah (Aarti Mann) gets sold off by her poor father Shiva (Adil Hussain), to the brothel owners at Mumbai. Sonia approaches the agent Baldev Pratap Singh (Anupam Kher) and requests him to even send her to Mumbai for finding her sister. She gets sold off to the brothel owner Faisal Khan (Manoj Bajpayee) and her hunt for her sister begins thereafter. Will Sonia be able to find Jiah or will she surrender herself to the world of “paid sex”?
Opinion = There are plethora of movies been made in Bollywood, sensitizing the audience with the issue of Human Trafficking. The best ones were MARDAANI and LAKSHMI (A national – award winner, given by Director Nagesh Kukunoor). The point is, the issue is already been overtly exploited in the past. Considering the highly impressive ensemble, I was expecting that the movie will showcase a solution to the problem or at least will show a way – out, to the people who have already got trapped in this vicious circle. But, I am highly disappointed.
The movie is highly engrossing in the first half, but completely deviates from the issue post interval. The way Sonia gets saved from the traffickers is extremely silly. The impressive performance of the cast is the only saving grace here. I would consider it as just a one – time watch!
Performances = The movie has an extremely impressive ensemble cast. After Gali Guleiyan, here also, actor Manoj Bajpayee scores full marks in the acting department. Same goes with actor Anupam Kher, who looks menacing on screen, as the pimp. Actress Sai Tanhamkar (HUNTERR Fame), as Baldev’s Agent, also suited the character perfect to the T. The performance of the protagonist Sonia, played by Mrunal Thakur, is the weakest link here. A little better actress would have taken the graph of the character to another level. Actor Rajkummar Rao, as the head of an NGO, was completely wasted here. I don’t understand why Rao chose this movie. Actress Richa Chaddha is becoming repetitive in her performance. Actress Frieda Pinto, also was decent in her performance.
Direction & Other Technical Aspects = In the past, Director Tabrez Noorani was associated with extremely praised and recognized projects like the SLUMDOG MILLIONARIE; LIFE OF PI, etc, in various capacities. This time, I am little disappointed with his direction. The movie gave me a feel of a “parallel cinema” in the first half, and became a typical Bollywood Masala, post interval. If Tabrez would have given more depth to the storyline, the final product would have been much better. Cinematographer Lucas Bielan has done a fantastic job. His setup of the brothel is enough to give you goosebumps. There is a dearth of Background Score and songs in the movie.

Review Rowdy -TweetOpinion = After the humungous success of ROBOT in 2010, the makers are back with its sequel 2.O. This time, apart from Superstar Rajinikanth and Director Shankar, even actor Akshay Kumar, Producer – Director Karan Johar and actor Adil Hussain are also associated […]
Review Rowdy -TweetPlot = Middle – Aged “peeping tom” Khuddoos (Manoj Bajpai) is a TV Technician by profession and has a habit of sneaking into the personal lives of his neighborhood residents. He is curious about the miserable life of his neighbor Idris (Om Singh), […]
Plot = A small town Chanderi is terrorized by a spirit, popularly known as STREE, who appears for 4 Nights in a year and abducts some men of the town, leaving behind their clothes. A close friend of Vicky (Rajkummar Rao), also gets abducted, which forces him to take complete control of the menace and solve the problem. He finds solace in a mysterious girl (Shraddha Kapoor) and his friend Rudra (Pankaj Tripathi), Bittu (Aparshakti Khurana) and Abhishek Banerjee. Will Vicky be able to uncover the true identity of STREE or does he already know her in disguise?
Opinion = Horror – comedy as a genre, is still under wraps, in Bollywood. The genre has a lot of potential, which if tapped properly, can do wonders at the box office. The movie is a classic example of “directionless direction”. The makers take a hell lot of time to setup the premise and the central characters, which fizzes out the energy of the narrative. Many things are spoon – fed and presented in-your-face, which makes the proceedings less convincing. The movie is extremely boring for the entire first half. It picks up pace just before the interval and becomes a laughter – riot in the second half. You will have to keep all the logics aside, if you want to enjoy the movie wholeheartedly. There are plethora of LOL Moments, which keep you entertained. But, again, the pathetic and utterly stupid climax, will piss you off. I felt that the police of Chanderi was too busy to pay heed to the repeated abduction of people in their town. Also, the movie boasts about feminism and the “she – issues” abruptly. I would consider it as a one – time watch. Watch it to have mindless fun!
Performances = Rajkummar Rao has a limited range of acting. Still, he is very wise in choosing his scripts, which, by default, allows him to shine. Here also, he seeped perfectly into the skin of his character and left no stone unturned. As always, Shraddha Kapoor again gave an expressionless performance. The “icing on the cake” was the performance of Pankaj Tripathi, who was extremely entertaining. Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee, went little over – the – top. Actress Nora Fatehi is emerging as the new item – girl cum sex-siren of Bollywood. After Dilbar Dilbar in Satyamev Jayate, she again gave a sizzling performance in Kamariya song. The remaining cast was just okay in their effort.
Direction & Other Technical Aspects = Director Amar Kaushik took a very big risk of choosing such a subject. Still, his effort is praise – worthy. However, he had the opportunity of making the movie more engaging in the first half. The Background Score and the overall sound mix of the movie is top notch. The songs are just average.
