Plot = Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh Khan), a 38 years old Midget, falls in love with a patient of cerebral palsy, named Aafia Yusufzai Bhinder (Anushka Sharma). Their life gets tobsy – turvy when Bauua meets his favorite actress Babita Kumari (Katrina Kaif) and falls in love with her as well. Will Bauua stay loyal to Aafia or will his affection towards Babita become a cause of trouble in his life?
Opinion = Year 2018 will always act as a case study for every aspiring filmmaker of Bollywood. This year, we have seen all the Grade A and highly bankable actors like Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, producing duds at the box office, in the form of GOLD, RACE 3 and THUGS OF HINDOSTAN.
On the contrary, the actors who were not considered as crowd pullers, like John Abraham, Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao and Alia Bhatt, had delivered smashing hits at the box office, in the form of PARMANU, SATYAMEV JAYATE, ANDHADHUN, BADHAAI HO, STREE and RAAZI.
This year, the Indian Audience chose content over stardom, while booking their tickets at the box office. So, with the release of ZERO, the KHAN TRIO has proved that, their decades of experience in the industry is also ZERO. Their ability of delivering smashing hits has also become ZERO. Their ability of differentiating between a good and a bad script, has also become ZERO.
ZERO is not a movie, it’s a 3rd Degree torture on mankind. ZERO is not a movie, but a culmination of clichés and boredom. ZERO is not a movie, but an outdoor party of all the industry friends of SRK.
So, before delving deep into the content of the movie (which I was hardly able to connect with), let us do away with the list of celebs (or should I write the friend circle of SRK) who have done a cameo in the movie.
So, you will see Salman Khan; Ganesh Acharya; Remo D’Souza; Abhay Deol; Rani Mukherjee; Kajol; Alia Bhatt; Sridevi; Juhi Chawla; Karisma Kapoor; Arjun Kapoor; Deepika Padukone; Mallika Dua (the one from Girlyapa Youtube Channel) and Madhavan (still famous for 3 Idiots only) play a useless cameo in this movie. Bas itne hi logon ne cameo appearance diya hai.
Talking about the movie, it’s simply garbage. It’s like testing your endurance level to the maximum limit. If you have committed any SIN in 2018, please go and watch this movie (till the end credits roll), believe me, GOD will forgive you.
Ye movie dekhna matlab, paapon ka prayaashchit karna hai!
There is a consistent non – linearity in screenplay, in plot setup, in storyline, in everything.
Kabhi Bauua Delhi mein hota hai, kabhi US mein, to kabhi space mein (haan bhai SPACE ko bhi nahin chhoda).
Bas wo “friction of seconds” mein itni diverse locations par kaise pahunch jaata hai, ye Director ne hi nahin socha, to aap sochke kya ukhaad loge?
The movie is bearable and little interesting for the first 20 minutes of the runtime, after that, anything happens, anytime and anywhere on screen. As an audience, you yourself will question your decision about buying the tickets of this GARBAGE.
The first half is extremely boring and the second one is neither logical nor DILLOGICAL.
The makers take a hell lot of a time in establishing the chemistry between the lead pair, but their efforts go in vain, as you are not able to connect with their feelings, at an emotional level.
Rest is just the magic of VFX, that’s it!
Performances = I will not say that SRK has done justice to the character of Bauua Singh, mainly because, he is a superstar and makers purposefully craft characters, that can please and suit the persona of the actors of SRK’s stature. Still, he has done, what he is doing since ages. There are some moments, which are brilliantly executed by SRK, rest he has just played with the role, within his restricted acting acumen.
Undoubtedly, the role of Aafia is a “performance of a lifetime” for Anushka Sharma. She has literally absorbed and breathed the character of a patient suffering from cerebral palsy. Well, it will be unfair to compare her acumen with the one of actress Kalki Koechlin (where she had played a similar character in the masterpiece named MARGHARITA WITH A STRAW). Both the actresses have played their roles, to the best of their potential.
Actor Zeeshan Ayyub (as Bauua’s Friend) has done nothing praise – worthy. Zeshan, if you are reading my review, then please either hone your acting skills, or leave Bollywood.
Potent actors like Tigmanshu Dhulia (our very own Ramadhir Singh from GOW) and Sheeba Chaddha (as Bauua’s Parents) were completely wasted in this movie.
Actress Katrina Kaif sizzles in the item number HUSN PARCHAM and muddles in the acting department.
The supporting cast was just average in their effort.
Direction & Other Technical Aspects = I had no expectations from the movie, but considering his recent works (as a Producer), I expected that Director Aanand L Rai will entertain us in a different way, on the lines of his previous flick TUMBBAD. But, I am highly disappointed with his Direction, Forget about the engagement or entertainment factor, his Direction was not in proper format or line even. Technically, the film is brilliant. The cinematography, the VFX, the Background Score, everything was just superb and world class. But, the entire setup and efforts got marred with an extremely poor and non – linear Script.
Only Mera Naam Tu and Husn Parcham songs are melodious and their picturization was also beautiful. Rest everything is forgettable about the movie.
Rowdy Rating = 1 / 5
Note: – My rating is purely for the performance of Anushka Sharma and the hard work of the VFX Team. Otherwise, my exact rating replicates the TITLE of the movie.
