Plot = A badass and corrupt cop Sangram Bhalerao a.k.a. SIMMBA (Ranveer Singh), gets posted at Miramar Police Station (Goa) and befriends the local goon Durva Ranade (Sonu Sood).
He acquits Durva from all the criminal charges, posted against him by the local residents, in exchange of Money. Sangram’s life gets tobsy-turvy when he is bound to lock thorns with Durva, for a heinous crime committed by Durva’s siblings.
So, will SIMMBA acquit the culprits, in the same way as he acquits their brother Durva, or will his conscience force him to rectify the error?
Opinion = So finally, Rohit Shetty has avenged the unfortunate death of NIRBHAYA, by making a khichadi of DABANGG & SINGHAM, along with promoting his next project in the pipeline, as well. The movie highlights the issues related to sexual assault and rape of women, which are growing at a phenomenal rate in our country.
Concept Wise, it’s a noble idea, but, Execution Wise, it’s a typical masala movie, rohit shetty shtyle!
The movie is completely PAISA WASOOL, if nothing else.
It will satisfy your urge of watching an entertaining flick and whatever review I publish, it will have minimal impact on Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh fans. They will watch it anyways.
The first half is quirky, slick, entertaining and engaging, all at the same time.
Whereas, the second half is verbose and philosophical.
If the makers would have worked a little hard to maintain the novelty of the second half, as well, it would have impacted my rating on this movie, in a positive way.
Nonetheless, there is something in the movie, for everybody, which makes it a complete family entertainer.
Performances = I cannot imagine any other actor playing the character of Sangram Bhalerao (SIMMBA) better than Ranveer Singh. It’s a role, crafted specially to suit his on screen personality. Ranveer is an adroit in carrying roles, which requires high amount of energy and innate masti. He is corrupt, laundiyabaaz, family man, gunda, everything, in equal proportion. The movie completely relies on and belongs to him.
Sara Ali Khan looks promising and suits the role perfect to the T.
Sonu Sood has done the same thing, which he is been doing since the release of DABANGG.
Off late, Bollywood has started disrespecting the talent and potential of an actor like Ashutosh Rana (Head Constable Mohile), by giving him trivial roles and monotonous character graphs.
The supporting cast was average in their performances.
The cameo of Ajay Devgn & Akshay Kumar is refreshing.
Direction & Other Technical Aspects = Director Rohit Shetty is well aware with the nerves and even the blood group of his audience. He gives them, what they exactly want.
You will always find decent comic punches, superhit soundtrack, citi bajaao action and dialoguebaazi, everything, in every film, helmed by Rohit Shetty.
Here also, he has continued the trajectory.
The cinematography and production design are lavish and stylish.
Can’t comment anything on the songs in this movie, because 2 of them, are just the remake of the old classics. And the cameo of all the lead actors of GOLMAAL in AANKH MAARE, was anyways useless.
Rowdy Rating = 3.5 / 5
