Plot = The movie is setup in the 1970’s, the time frame of EMERGENCY (to be precise), where Lakhna (Sushant Singh Rajput), Vakil Singh (Ranvir Shorey) and their gang members are bandits, lead by Maan Singh (Manoj Bajpayee).
Indumati Tomar (Bhumi Pednekar) and her teenage sister Sonchiriya seeks solace in this gang and are on a mission to reach Dhaulpur, unscathed.
Inspector Virender Singh Gujjar (Ashutosh Rana) is on a hunt of these gang members.
Will Maan Singh, his fellow gang members, Indumati and Sonchiriya be able to reach their destination, or is there something else written in their fate?
Opinion = I am facing a crunch of words to praise the content of this movie. There is a dearth of movies which communicate a socially relevant message, without going overboard and preachy.
SONCHIRIYA is one of those.
It is one of the best movies produced in the history of Indian Cinema.
I am felling blessed to take birth and gain maturity at such a time, where we are getting GEMS like these to patronize.
It belongs to the league of cinema where mainstream actors are casted in a parallel cinema.
People who understand and respect cinema as an art, will definitely tally with my review on this.
The entire movie is highly engaging and nerve – wracking.
I was scared to take down notes on my personal whatsapp group (which I do while reviewing all the movies) because it took my attention away from the screen.
It’s unfortunate that such movies are made on a shoe – string budget and hence are not able to garner much hype or affection.
Also, our countrymen are still very naïve in choosing their source of entertainment.
They just don’t understand ART in its right FORM.
If you are a connoisseur of content – driven and thought – provoking cinema, you must watch this flick immediately!
Performances = When you have a pool of extremely talented and proven actors like Ashutosh Rana, Manoj Bajpayee, Suhant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar and Ranvir Shorey on board with you, you can only expect something outstanding to be delivered.
Every actor has shined in his / her respective role.
The supporting cast was also BANG ON!
Direction & Other Technical Aspects = I am stating it openly that I have never liked the execution style of Director Abhishek Chaubey. Here, I am referring to his previous works like UDTA PUNJAB, ISHQIYA & DEDH ISHQIYA.
But here, he has taken me aback with his talent.
He has proven the point that if he gets a good script and highly talented actors on board, WO SABSE ACHCHI MOVIE BANAAKE DIKHA SAKTA HAI.
His direction is highly engaging and in its raw form. It would have been a mammoth of a task for him to present an extremely serious and heavy plot, in an entertaining and lighter way.
The cinematography and the background score give you a feel of the parallel cinema.
Rowdy Rating = 5 /5
(This is my 2nd perfect rating for a BOLLYWOOD movie, after CRD)
