Review Rowdy -TweetOpinion = Finally, the trailer of ZERO is here. This is one of those movies who got heavily exploited during the initial promotions, such that, its buzz lost its steam till the release of its trailer. The makers had also released a teaser […]

Review Rowdy -TweetPlot = Mauji (Varun Dhawan) and Mamta (Anushka Sharma) are a small – town married couple, who strive to live a happy and fulfilling life, with whatever resources they have. Mamta provokes Mauji to leave his ill – mannered boss and start something […]
Plot = The movie showcases the real – life journey of actor Sanjay Dutt, right from the shoot of his first movie ROCKY, till he gets acquitted in the arms – dealing case by the Supreme Court (minus his relationship with model Rhea Pillai).
Opinion = It was the most awaited movie of this year. Since its announcement, the updates on the movie were constantly followed by the paparazzi. And with the launch of its first look, then teaser and finally the trailer, the audience had a great curiosity, for witnessing the tumultuous life, of one of the biggest superstars of our country. Considering the content, I am not at all disappointed. Generally, if anyone attempts to make a biopic on an individual, who is still alive, at some point, the makers (knowingly or unintentionally) try to glorify them, by showcasing the positive aspects of their lives, on a higher pitch. MARY KOM, GURU, MS. DHONI – THE UNTOLD STORY; AZHAR, etc, are classic examples of it. Here, the makers have tried their level best in being honest with the treatment of the film.
Also, Actor Sanjay Dutt deserves a pat-on-his-back for sharing even his darkest of the secrets, openly with the world. However, nothing has been highlighted about his affair and marriage with model Rhea Pillai, for reasons unknown. The movie is highly performance driven and was able to present different incidents related to Sanjay Dutt’s life, in a lucid manner. For the first 15 minutes, the movie takes time to become engaging, but, post that, it becomes a memorable ride. Please keep some tissues handy, as you will need it for wiping your tears in couple of sequences.
Performances = I didn’t see Ranbir Kapoor, but, Sanjay Dutt on screen. Ranbir has usurped himself completely into the skin of the character. With his body language, style of walking, voice modulation, facial expressions, choice of wearable accessories, etc, Ranbir Kapoor has given a “performance of a lifetime”. However, in some scenes, his efforts seemed deliberate. But, if he is lucky enough, Ranbir might win a “national award” for this movie. Actor Paresh Rawal brought back “Sunil Dutt Sahab” on screen. No other actor could have been a better choice. Actress Dia Mirza, as Manyata Dutt, had nothing productive to do. Actor Vicky Kaushal, as Kamlesh Kapsi (Sanjay’s friend), got a very meaty and different role this time, he did a pretty decent job. In our wildest dreams, we can imagine that Rahul Gandhi might become the PM of our country someday, but, unfortunately, we cannot imagine that Sonam Kapoor will ever learn acting. Classic Actors like Piyush Mishra, as writer Tripathi, Sayaji Shinde, as Bandu Dada and Prakash Belawadi, as Newspaper Editor, were completely wasted here. Actor Boman Irani, as Sonam’s Father, is doing the same kind of performance since past couple of years now. Here also, actor Jim Sarbh is playing a gayish character, with the same tone and type of dialogue – delivery, which he had used in PADMAAVAT. Actress Anushka Sharma, as the biographer, was redundant in the movie. Actress Manisha Koirala, as Nargis Dutt, gave a brief but impactful performance.
Direction & Other Technical Aspects = I appreciate the efforts of Director Rajkumar Hirani and Writer Abhijat Joshi, in making the movie entertaining and engaging at the same time. It’s a tedious task of arranging real life events of a person who has been so controversial and has been in the spotlight throughout his life. Still, the duo managed to keep the audience entertained and get connected emotionally, with the proceedings on screen. The Background Score of the movie is highly impactful. Apart from “Kar Har Maidan Fateh” and “Mujhe Chaand Pe Le Chalo”, all other songs are forgettable.
