Plot = Mafia lord of Gopal Math, Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), returns to Mumbai after staying off – radar for more than a decade. Opinion = This is India’s first original series produced only for NETFLIX. Since its release on 6th July, this web series is getting rave reviews everywhere. But, I would beg to differ from other critics, in my opinion. There are multiple facets of the series which disappointed me and my logical senses. The series is highly impactful, no doubt in that, but, majority of the part lacks entertainment value.
Firstly, the movie is heavily inspired from The Godfather, also its Indian Version, which was SARKAR (The assassination of Paritosh Shah, closely resembles that of Vishram Bhagat in SARKAR).
Secondly, it continues the legacy of mocking the operations of the most powerful intelligence agency of our country, RAW (less than “Ek Tha Tiger” Franchise).
RAW is shown henpecked throughout the series, which makes the proceedings unbelievable. Also, the use of cuss words and sleazy scenes seem forced, for a major part.
Till the first 4 episodes, as a viewer, you remain highly clueless about what and why things are moving in such a way. The modus – operandi used by senior officials in cracking the case, also looks hilarious.
The series can be termed as a dark – thriller, which will appeal to a niche audience.
I would consider it as a one – time watch.
Performances = There is no doubt that Nawazuddin Siddiqui is the best actor we have in Bollywood today. Here also, his personification of Ganesh Gaitonde, is just outstanding. The lunacy, frustration, arrogance and attitude of Ganesh Gaitonde’s character is presented by Nawaz in a subtle way. But, at certain places, I felt that Nawazuddin was deliberately trying to imitate Don Vito Corleone. You can never forget his character and his performance, after you finish watching this series. Actor Saif Ali Khan looked very convincing as a Sardar. His dialogue – delivery and diction, was also very impressive. Neeraj Kabi as Officer Parulkar was also very effective, but I feel, he is getting repetitive in choosing his roles. Actress Radhika Apte, as RAW Chief Anjali Mathur, was completely wasted here, so was, actress Geetanjali Thapa, as actress Nayanika, and actor Pankaj Tripathi, as Guruji Khanna. Actor Girish Kulkarni, as minister Bhosale, gave yet another impactful and riveting performance after KAABIL. Also, the scope of actress Kubra Sait, as Kuku, was restricted to having Anal Sex with Ganesh Gaitonde, still, she gave an impactful performance. Actor Jatin Sarna, as Bunty, also gave a mind – boggling performance. The supporting cast did a pretty decent job.
Direction & Other Technical Aspects = Director – Duo Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane had directed the entire series. Their signature style of filmmaking is quite evident. Anurag is now been considered as Quentin Tarantino of India, considering his vision and execution while making a movie. After Bhavesh Joshi – Superhero, even Vikaramaditya Motwane has started following Kashyap’s style of filmmaking. The series is extremely violent and is not at all for the faint – hearted. Also, there is a bit heavy dose of sex, in this series. The Cinematography and Production Design, suits the genre of the series. The Intro Composition and the Background Score are highly effective. The pacing of the series at some parts, could have been improved.

Review Rowdy -TweetPlot = Naina Mathur (Rani Mukerji), suffering from a neurological disorder known as Tourette Syndrome, gets the job of being a teacher at a reputed school, for handling the class reserved for the students getting admission through RTI. Professor Wadia (Neeraj Kabi), who […]
Review Rowdy -TweetReview = After watching the trailer, you will feel that the movie is an extension to this year’s blockbuster hit Hindi Medium. Where in Hindi Medium, we had seen the flaws present in the process of implementing the Right of Children to Free […]
Plot = The movie is based on a manhunt initiated by a crime branch officer Mr. Khan, played by actor Neeraj Kabi, for arresting a contract killer Shiva, played by actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who helps mafia leaders in killing some builders, who refuse to pay money, demanded by mafia leaders, through extortion. The deputy in-charge of the case is newly joined officer Adi, played by actor Vijay Varma, who manages to trap Shiva on a rainy night, but is faced with a dilemma of whether he should kill Shiva or just let him flee, as they had no concrete evidence against Shiva for testifying the murders, executed by him. You will have to watch the movie to see whether Adi kills or releases Shiva in the climax sequence.
Opinion = The producers of the movie had launched the first – ever interactive trailer of a Bollywood Movie, released on YouTube. It was a very impressive marketing gimmick, but unfortunately, the unconventional thought process and the time which got invested in conceptualizing the launch of the trailer, was not invested in making the film. The movie is highly impressive overall, except in the first and the last 15 minutes of its runtime. Also, the execution of some scenes and sequences is gore and brutal and is not at all suitable for family audience. You require high level of concentration for understanding the proceedings, which makes it a tiring affair. Also, it is unfathomable for me that why a newly joined officer is made in-charge of such a high profile case.
Performances = Again, Nawazuddin Siddiqui steals the show with his stellar performance. He is in his previous avatar of Raman Raghav 2.O and his presence in the movie is a haunting experience. Actor Neeraj Kabi has again given an outstanding performance on the lines of his previous movies Ship Of Theseus and Talvar. Neeraj has the potential of establishing himself as the next Naseeruddin Shah of bollywood. Actor Vijay Varma has given a very impressive performance. An actress like Tanishta Chatterjee is completely wasted here. Actress Sreejita De looks voluptuous on screen as a Bar Girl. Actress Geetanjali Thapa, which was last seen in Trapped, was not at all required in the movie, and in fact, her presence acts as a hindrance to the proceedings.
Direction & Other Technical Aspects = Director Amit Kumar had a novel and unconventional storyline at his disposal and he has done justice with the script, up to an extent. However, he failed to fill in the lacuna, which is starkly evident in the script. The cinematography and music of the movie are pretty decent.
