Plot = Mafia lord of Gopal Math, Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), returns to Mumbai after staying off – radar for more than a decade. Ganesh approaches Inspector Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) to inform that the city of Mumbai will be destroyed after 25 days. Will Sartaj be able to save the city or is there something more in store for him?

Opinion = This is India’s first original series produced only for NETFLIX. Since its release on 6th July, this web series is getting rave reviews everywhere. But, I would beg to differ from other critics, in my opinion. There are multiple facets of the series which disappointed me and my logical senses. The series is highly impactful, no doubt in that, but, majority of the part lacks entertainment value.

Firstly, the movie is heavily inspired from The Godfather, also its Indian Version, which was SARKAR (The assassination of Paritosh Shah, closely resembles that of Vishram Bhagat in SARKAR).

Secondly, it continues the legacy of mocking the operations of the most powerful intelligence agency of our country, RAW (less than “Ek Tha Tiger” Franchise).

RAW is shown henpecked throughout the series, which makes the proceedings unbelievable. Also, the use of cuss words and sleazy scenes seem forced, for a major part.

Till the first 4 episodes, as a viewer, you remain highly clueless about what and why things are moving in such a way. The modus – operandi used by senior officials in cracking the case, also looks hilarious.

The series can be termed as a dark – thriller, which will appeal to a niche audience.

I would consider it as a one – time watch.

Performances = There is no doubt that Nawazuddin Siddiqui is the best actor we have in Bollywood today. Here also, his personification of Ganesh Gaitonde, is just outstanding. The lunacy, frustration, arrogance and attitude of Ganesh Gaitonde’s character is presented by Nawaz in a subtle way. But, at certain places, I felt that Nawazuddin was deliberately trying to imitate Don Vito Corleone. You can never forget his character and his performance, after you finish watching this series. Actor Saif Ali Khan looked very convincing as a Sardar. His dialogue – delivery and diction, was also very impressive. Neeraj Kabi as Officer Parulkar was also very effective, but I feel, he is getting repetitive in choosing his roles. Actress Radhika Apte, as RAW Chief Anjali Mathur, was completely wasted here, so was, actress Geetanjali Thapa, as actress Nayanika, and actor Pankaj Tripathi, as Guruji Khanna. Actor Girish Kulkarni, as minister Bhosale, gave yet another impactful and riveting performance after KAABIL. Also, the scope of actress Kubra Sait, as Kuku, was restricted to having Anal Sex with Ganesh Gaitonde, still, she gave an impactful performance. Actor Jatin Sarna, as Bunty, also gave a mind – boggling performance. The supporting cast did a pretty decent job.

Direction & Other Technical Aspects = Director – Duo Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane had directed the entire series. Their signature style of filmmaking is quite evident. Anurag is now been considered as Quentin Tarantino of India, considering his vision and execution while making a movie. After Bhavesh Joshi – Superhero, even Vikaramaditya Motwane has started following Kashyap’s style of filmmaking. The series is extremely violent and is not at all for the faint – hearted. Also, there is a bit heavy dose of sex, in this series. The Cinematography and Production Design, suits the genre of the series. The Intro Composition and the Background Score are highly effective. The pacing of the series at some parts, could have been improved.

Review Rowdy -

Plot = The movie is an official biopic, based on the life of Mr. Arunachalam Muruganantham, a resident of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, who invented a machine for manufacturing low cost sanitary pads for women. Here, Mr. Lakshmikant Chauhan a.k.a. Lakshmi, played by actor Akshay Kumar, invents a machine for manufacturing low cost sanitary pads after seeing the suffering of his wife Ms. Gayatri Chauhan, played by actress Radhika Apte, during her menstrual cycle. Lakshmi’s work gets acknowledged and famous with the help of Ms. Pari Walia, played by actress Sonam Kapoor, who advises him to form an organized business out of his idea and gets it patented. The movie then showcases how Lakshmi gets all the glory and respect for his work globally.

Opinion = It was undoubtedly one of the most awaited movies of 2018. However, the execution of the film does not meet the expectation. The effort of making it a feel good movie is quite evident on screen. A lot of cinematic liberties are used for conveying an inherent message. The first half of the movie is very good, but the second half is above average. Had the team worked a little hard on the proceedings and the script, the movie would have had the potential of becoming a thought – provoking cinema. It was just a sophisticated and detailed version of PHULLU, which had released last year. I have explained the hits and misses of the movie in detail, in my video review (link posted below), do watch it.

Performances = I salute Akshay Kumar for choosing socially – relevant scripts. Right form Airlift, Toilet and now Padman, he has touched various issues faced by our society and presented it on celluloid. He deserves a standing ovation for his performance in the climax where he gives a speech in New York. Do watch the movie for this scene specifically. Actress Radhika Apte conquers the world of acting with her every outing. She has presented so many facets of her acting acumen that she deserves to be counted in the league of A List Actresses. In this movie, she has lived the character of Gayatri Chauhan perfect to the ‘T’. The acting of Sonam Kapoor is the period of this movie, which doesn’t give anything, except pain.  The remaining cast was just average in their performance. The cameo of Mr. Amitabh Bachchan gives a refreshing feel to the movie.

Direction & Other Technical Aspects = Director R Balki must be applauded for presented unconventional stories on celluloid. His approach and direction has a refreshing feel. This time, his finesse was marred by a weak script. The screenplay of the movie ensures that you are invested in the proceedings throughout. The song Aaj Se Teri, sung by Arijit Singh, is highly melodious and the title song is also good, rest all the songs are situational and forgettable.
