My Review Of ‘Chutney – Short Film’

My Review Of ‘Chutney – Short Film’

Review Rowdy -

Plot = The movie is a ‘slice of life’ of Tisca Chopra where she is residing in Ghaziabad with her husband (Adil Hussain), her brother in law (Devesh Ranjan) and a servant (Sumit Gulati). Tisca is sexually and mentally frustrated in her life as all her family members (including her husband) are loose in character and are looking to satiate their sexual needs outside their home. Tisca meets her friend Rasika Dugal at a party where she catches her husband Adil hitting on her. Tisca just ignores her husband’s gesture and invites Rasika at her house next day. When Rasika meets Tisca at her residence she describes her about her family and one of her servant named ‘Bhola’ played by Aakash Bhardwaj. She offers Rasika some pakoras and chutney along with aerated drinks. Rasika immediately appreciates the taste of chutney and requests Tisca to explain her how she has made it.

Opinion = The thought process of central characters of this movie will give you Goosebumps. The movie is highly engaging right from the first frame and will make you highly uncomfortable and shocked till the end. It is a dark story which is presented with ease and finesse. People who are appreciators of psychological thrillers will love this film. Since the movie is a suspense thriller I cannot go in much depth, but you need to watch the explanation given by Tisca while teaching Rasika about making that chutney.

Performances = The entire movie belongs to Tisca Chopra. It is her finest performance till date and she has proved her mettle in acting in every frame. Bollywood has a lot to extract from this actress. Also, Adil Hussain, Rasika Dugal and other characters have played their roles brilliantly.

Direction & Other Technical Aspects = Director Jyoti Kapur Das has presented the characters and the content brilliantly. The entire movie keeps you engaged and on the edge of your seat. Also, the art direction and production design of the film is at par with the requirement of the film. Tisca Chopra is also one of the writers of the script and we would be happy to see more such films from her.
