My Review Of – “Lucknow Central”

My Review Of – “Lucknow Central”

Review Rowdy -

Plot = The movie is based on a real life incident where Mr. V.K. Jain, Senior Superintendent of Adarsh Karagar Jail, based on the outskirts of Lucknow, wanted a music band to be formed so that the inmates of the jail could participate in the annual inter – prison talent showcase. In the movie, the superintendent of Lucknow Central Jail, played by actor Ronit Roy, makes an in – house band following the instructions of his superiors. In the jail one of the prisoner is Farhan Akhtar, who is serving life imprisonment on charge of a murder of an IAS Officer. The movie showcases how Farhan gets trapped in the ambit of fake allegations in detail. In the jail, with the help of a social worker, played by Actress Diana Penty, Farhan constitutes a band with the joint effort of Gippy Grewal, Deepak Dobriyal, Inaamulhaq and Rajesh Sharma. With the instructions of minister Ravi Kissan, the competition is scheduled for 15th August. While preparing for the event, the band members also form a jail-break strategy.

Opinion = The team had a very noble plot at their disposal, but they could just make an average bollywood movie. In a couple of scenes I felt that we are trying to remake The Shawshank Redemption but then, I realized that bollywood directors will always prefer to make a typical masala film over a thought – provoking cinema. And I was absolutely right. As far as its treatment is concerned, the movie has nothing new to offer. The narrative is overly dramatic and situations seem repetitive and unreal. If you are planning to watch a movie this weekend, I would suggest you to choose Simran over this. If you don’t watch this film, you don’t lose anything.

Performances = Farhan Akhtar had given a very disappointing performance in DADDY last week. Here, he has given a decent performance, but nothing which we can boast about. I am not in the mood to comment anything on the acting prowess of the supporting star cast, because the script itself is extremely weak and tardy. Actress Diana Penty has a very good screen presence and here, she has got a very meaty and lengthy role (compared to her previous projects), but the writers could not sketch out her character with depth. Actor Ronit Roy and Actor Deepak Dobriyal have repeated their previous performances and their talent is completely wasted in this film.

Direction & Other Technical Aspects = I am not happy with Director Ranjit Tiwari as he has put a noble idea into garbage. If this plot would have been given to some A List Director, the scenario would have been different. The music and the fight sequences of the film are good. The reprised version of Kaawa Kaawa is already a chartbuster.
