My Review Of ‘Sarkar 3’

My Review Of ‘Sarkar 3’

Review Rowdy -

Plot = The movie is an extension of the ‘Sarkar’ franchise which is one of the most successful franchise of Bollywood. Subhash Nagre a.k.a ‘Sarkar’ is dealing with the current political situation of Mumbai where a builder (Bajrangbali Singh), a politician (Manoj Bajpai) and a businessman (Jackie Shroff) plans a murder conspiracy against Sarkar because he doesn’t allow them to setup a business project at Dharavi. To defend the conspiracy, Sarkar is supported by his Grandson Shivaji Nagre (Amit Sadh) and 2 of his confidants (Ronit Roy & Parag Tyagi).

Opinion: – All the ‘Sarkar’ fans (including me) were eagerly waiting for the third installment of one of the most successful franchise of Bollywood. And fortunately the audience is not disappointed. Sarkar is the Indian version of ‘The Godfather’ and RGV was honest enough to state the fact in the opening credits of the first part. ‘The Godfather’ is the most revered crime thriller in the history of world cinema. Actor Marlon Brando had made the movie a cult classic through his histrionics. Unfortunately, no bollywood actor can match the stature of Brando. But, I cannot imagine any actor portraying the role of Subhash Nagre better than Big B. It is the role crafted for him only. People who have not seen ‘The Godfather’ generally state that Sarkar Series is based on the Thackerey Family. But, more than 60% of Sarkar was inspired by the 1972 classic. The opening shot and the planning and plotting sequence of murder of Sarkar’s confidant ‘Southeya’ were directly copied from the american flick. Some parts and proceedings of the first installment are loosely connected with the Thackerey Family. But ‘Sarkar Raj’ and now ‘Sarkar 3’ has nothing to do with them and are just continuation of the previous movies. The third installment has a lot to offer. The film is very stylish in its appearance and execution. In the opening shot, you only see BIG B’s right hand covering more than 90% of the screen space. Just the movement of his hand and the background settings displays his power, respect, fear and position. We have seen a similar situation in ‘Rakht Charitra 1’ when in the climax Puru Reddy comes to Vivek Oberoi and begs to forgive him. In that specific sequence, Vivek, without uttering a single word, just makes a gesture from his right hand which was enough to state his position and power and the helplessness of his opponent. Believe me only RGV has the vision to shoot such a sequence. In this movie, the way Manoj Bajpai’s murder is shot proves that RGV is a genius filmmaker. Since, the movie is a political thriller and since it has been shot in ‘neo-noir’ style, it requires constant concentration for understanding the proceedings and becomes little heavy at some places.

Performances = Director Ram Gopal Varma has pooled actors of very high caliber like Big B, Manoj Bajpai, Rohini Hatangadi and Ronit Roy for the movie. Everybody has played their role perfect to the ‘T’. But the surprise element of the film is Yami Gautam. It is a treat to watch the cute and bubbly ‘Fair & Lovely Girl’ playing a negative character in the film and she looks very convincing playing a dark character. Also, the performance of Amit Sadh as Sarkar’s grandson is just outstanding. He has broken all his inhibitions and has usurped himself completely into the character. If he is fortunate enough then this movie will place his bollywood career on a superior pedestal. On the whole, we have another riveting and outstanding performance from the powerhouse of talent ‘Mr. Bachchan’.

Direction & Other Technical Aspects = Director Ram Gopal Varma has given us another cult after ‘Sarkar’ which is much better than its predecessor ‘Sarkar Raj’. He has kept the audience engrossed and intrigued right from the word GO. People who like logical and strategy – driven political thrillers will love this flick.
